I really hate to admit this… my creative time has been a leaky bucket lately.

Every morning I start with a full bucket. Then the little holes open up. Five minutes checking a post's numbers. Ten minutes answering something that could've waited. Twenty minutes scrolling "for research." Now, when you look at it no single hole seems like a big deal in that moment, but by the time I sit down to actually create, the bucket's half empty and I'm wondering where the day went.

Here's what I've realized: pouring in more hours won't fix a bucket that leaks. You have to find the holes. So this week I started auditing the little things, the small daily habits that drain my focus without my noticing. I'm finding them, naming them, and patching them one at a time. Because creative time isn't whatever's left at the bottom of the bucket. It's what I'm trying to protect in the first place.

This issue runs the same audit. We start with how drained everyone really is, look at the tools the platforms say will plug the leaks for us, and finish with funding and a one-week challenge to find your own holes.

Let's fix the bucket.

George Torres

In full transparency, here are the 5 things that I found are draining me…

  1. Checking the numbers. Refreshing views, likes, and open rates right after posting. It feels like work, but it changes nothing and pulls you out of the next idea.

I thought I was over this… but it still happens sometimes.

  2. The "real quick" reply. Answering DMs, emails, and texts the moment they come in. Every interruption costs you the time it takes to reply plus the time it takes to get back into flow.

  3. Scrolling "for research." Opening an app to check a trend and coming up thirty minutes later with nothing but distracting thoughts dancing Salsa in my brain.

  4. Perfecting what's already good. Re-editing a caption, a thumbnail, or a graphic for the fifth time when the second version was ready to go.

  5. Tool shuffling. Switching between apps, testing new tools, and reorganizing systems instead of making the thing the systems are supposed to support.

It is happening to more people than we know…

Half of us say being online feels like a second job
Incogni surveyed 1,000 U.S. adults in June. 55% say they post less than they did five years ago, and nearly half have deleted a social or messaging app because of stress or anxiety. 51% said keeping up an online presence feels like work, and among Gen Z that number was 60%.

If your audience is this tired too, the answer isn't more volume. It's better, calmer, more intentional work.

YouTube wants Studio to act like your staff
At Made On YouTube on September 23, YouTube introduced Ask Studio, which gives you personalized AI feedback on draft videos, suggests other titles and thumbnails, and explains why your videos performed the way they did. A new opt-in comment moderation feature learns how you moderate and filters comments to match, so you spend less time policing your comments section. Here's the audit question: will these tools buy back real hours, or just give you three more things to test every week?

Amber Grant for Women Entrepreneurs
WomensNet gives out three $10,000 Amber Grants every month, and each monthly winner automatically qualifies for one of three $50,000 year-end grants. The application is just two questions about your business and your vision. Applications close at the end of each month, so the next cutoff is September 30. The $15 application fee is the only fee they charge, and you can email them to ask for a waiver. Don't miss the deadline.    Apply now > +2

YouTube's Creator Burnout Guide
This is a free, official guide, and it's surprisingly practical. It names missing boundaries as one of the most common causes of burnout. Its suggestions: keep a separate workspace, cap how long you spend replying to comments, check in with yourself every week, and use a community post to tell your audience when you're taking a break. Treat it as a checklist for your own time audit. Google Support

This is for you if you are a... Small Business Owner

You don't need to be your brand's full-time content studio. Emplifi's data showed that brands with fewer than 10,000 followers got five times more interactions from collabs that the creator published. So here's your move this week. Track every hour you spend making, editing, and posting content for seven days. Pick the one piece that ate the most time and did the least. Then take that time and budget to a local creator: let them publish the post and invite you on as a collaborator. You get your hours back, and your product gets introduced by a voice their community already trusts. - Affiverse
