Let's be honest about what's really getting in your way as a creator. I promise you it's not a lack of talent.

It is the little things that come up daily…

It's the podcast you've already recorded and still haven't shared, because perfection paralysis convinced you it wasn't ready. It's the idea you talked yourself out of because you didn't have the audacity to believe you were the one to say it. It's showing up strong for two weeks, then disappearing for two months, and letting that inconsistency turn into a story about who you are.

It's scrolling through someone else's highlight reel and deciding you're behind. It's the imposter syndrome whispering that everyone else has it figured out. It's chasing every trend and algorithm change until your content no longer sounds like you. And it's trying to do all of it alone, squeezed between a day job, family, and everything else life asks of you.

Each of these roadblocks chips away at your creativity a little at a time. The ideas stop flowing. The joy turns into obligation. And before you know it, you're not just stuck, you're burnt out, wondering why the thing you once loved now feels so heavy.

What if I told you that this has happenned to me at some point… and there is a version of this thats is happening to me right now. I literally have had this convo in the mirror just two days ago…

Me writing about it and sharing my struggles with you gets me through it.

Know This…The Hustle Will Not Hold You

Creator culture sells a story that says the grind is the goal. Post daily. Chase the trend. Answer every DM. Sleep when you're successful.

I've been creating online since 1997. I've watched platforms rise and disappear. I've lost work I poured my soul into. What I learned is that the algorithm will never love you back. It won't check on you at 2am when the doubt creeps in. It won't remind you why you started.

What holds you is what grounds you.

So Get Creative About What Grounds You

We are creative people. We solve problems for a living. So why are we treating our own wellbeing like it has only one answer?

Since the pandemic, and the beginning of this project, I have learned grounding looks different for everyone, and you will never know what grounds you till you try it… here are some ways I have experimented,

  • A ritual that has nothing to do with content. Cooking your grandmother's recipe. A morning walk with no phone. Something that belongs only to you.

  • Movement. Dancing in your kitchen counts. So does stretching at 35,000 feet between beverage service, if you know, you know.

  • Creating without publishing. Journaling, sketching, voice notes to yourself. Art that has no audience and no metrics.

  • Connecting to where you come from. Your culture, your family stories, your language. Knowing where you come from steadies you for where you're going.

  • Rest as a practice, not a reward. You don't have to earn a day off.

The goal isn't to find the "right" answer. It's to find your answers and protect them like they matter, because they do.

Community Is Mental Hygiene

On every flight, we remind passengers to put their own oxygen mask on first, before helping anyone else. Not because the plane is going down, but because you can't take care of anything if you can't breathe.

Mental hygiene kinda works the same way.

And one of the most powerful forms of mental hygiene is community… it’s where I take my deepest breaths.

When you're surrounded by people who get it, who understand the late nights, the imposter syndrome, the joy of a post that finally lands, something shifts. You stop carrying everything alone. You start hearing your own struggles in someone else's story, and that alone can loosen the grip it has on your creativity.

The right community creates a culture where:

  • It's normal to say "I'm not okay this week."

  • Rest is respected, not judged.

  • Wins are celebrated without comparison.

  • You meet people from every walk of life who challenge and expand how you see the world.

  • Accountability comes with care, not pressure.

This is why I say community is the real algorithm. It's what sustains you when the numbers can’t.

Community + Therapy: A Powerful Pairing

Let me be clear: community is not a replacement for therapy. It's a partner to it.

Therapy gives you tools to understand yourself, work through what's underneath, and build healthier patterns. Community gives you a place to practice those tools out loud, with real people, in real time.

Together, they create something special:

  • Your creativity opens up. When you're not running on fear and burnout, ideas have room to breathe.

  • You find your people. Healing makes you more open, and openness attracts the right connections.

  • You actually reach your goals. Not through force, but through clarity and consistency that comes from being grounded.

If you've been thinking about therapy, consider this your sign. Taking care of your mind is taking care of your craft.

Create From Fullness

The creators who last aren't the ones who grind the hardest. They're the ones who stay grounded.

So this week, I want you to ask yourself:

What grounds me? And am I protecting it?

Find your rituals. Find your people. Find the support you deserve. Then create from a place of fullness, not emptiness.

Community can change everything, but only if you show up ready. That's why I wrote Reclaiming Your Creativity After Burnout. This workbook takes you step by step through the work that makes the difference, so when the right people show up, you grow with them instead of getting left behind.

That's how we grow. Together.

Con cariño,
George ❤️

The best influencer marketing advice never comes from a report

Think about the last thing that got you fired up about your job this year. Odds are it didn't come from a report. It came from someone who does the job, saying what happened when they tried it.

So we've filled a day with people like that.

Maya Shaff, ŌURA. Leah Walker, Adobe. Georgia Humphries, Stanley 1913. Enara Roy, Halfday. Tyler Vaught, Edelman. Josh Rangel, Ogilvy. Sarah Whittle, ex-Crocs and Duolingo.

And that's just the first wave of speakers.

Return on Influence Festival '26 is a free, virtual day dedicated to influencer marketing. Like any good festival, there are stages. But no mud, no queues, and absolutely no porta-potties.

Sign up today, and the rest of the lineup lands in your inbox first.
