In partnership with

Cultivators,

Being in this game as long as I have, I don't have many peers who've been around more than 25 years. So it means something to tell you that today I'm highlighting someone who launched a small film festival back when Sofrito Media Group was only celebrating its second year with several digital cultural properties including Sofrito For Your Soul (Est. 1997)

Today I want to recognize Calixto Chinchilla for being a voice for Latino filmmakers since 1999. He and his team have built a festival that stands as one of the most complete celebrations of Latino Heritage Month I've seen in my 30 years in this space.

On Sunday, Calixto kicked it off with the Futuro Digital Conference, in partnership with Un Chin Magazine and Audible at Alianza Dominicana in NYC, putting creators in conversation about our growing role in the creator economy, with a real spotlight on wellness and mental health. What follows is a full schedule of events bringing you diverse stories from some of the best storytellers our community has to offer.

Take the time to slow down and enjoy what Calixto has curated for you to celebrate your culture this Latino Heritage Month.

In Unity…

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that one of our dear friends and Siembra Cultivator, Yvette Bodden will be joining the NYLFF team alongside Jay Mercado to host this year’s festival.

Please follow them both on Instagram and support their coverage.

Although, NYLFF owns the next few days in NYC, I will be posting daily to highlight some of the best content I am seeing in my timeline over the next 30 days… I will also have a big announcement on 10/15 to close the month.

Please share this newsletter with your friends and primos!

About NYLFF

Today, NYLFF extends beyond the screen through its flagship Film Festival, the Futuro Digital Conference, multi-market national tours, NYLFF Cinematics, its development and production initiative supporting the next generation of storytellers, and its award-winning marketing and production arm, AGENCY NYLFF, bringing together film, digital media, culture, brands, creators, and community under one powerful platform.
