What is growing this week

This week Disney handed TikTok creators the keys to Marvel and Star Wars — and it's the clearest sign yet of where the platforms think your value lives.

Meanwhile, one app quietly crossed a milestone that has nothing to do with going viral. Two very different bets on what "reach" means. Let's get into it.

💬 Today’s Question is…

If your favorite platform disappeared tomorrow, would your audience still be able to find you?

Hit reply and tell me honestly — yes, no, or "I've been meaning to fix that." I read every one.

MENTAL HEALTH MOMENT
🌎 Dallas Creators Are Building the Mental Health Support the Industry Never Did

Local creator organizations in Dallas are working to get licensed, creator-specific mental health resources in front of a fast-growing digital creator hub — Texas now ranks fourth nationally for online influencer activity. Model and advocate Shuan Balkum put it plainly: people assume that having followers or making money online means you're unaffected by pressure and public scrutiny, when in reality creators are running small businesses alone while putting their personal lives on display. It's a small but real signal that "figure it out yourself" is finally being treated as the wrong answer.

"Creators can experience burnout, isolation, anxiety and emotional exhaustion just like anyone else."

Disney Just Handed TikTok Creators the Keys to Marvel and Star Wars
Disney and TikTok announced a first-of-its-kind deal letting opted-in creators build short-form videos using licensed characters and scenes from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and FX — with the best clips featured in "Verts," a new vertical feed inside Disney+. It's a real distribution opportunity, and also a reminder that the reach on offer runs through someone else's IP and someone else's platform.

TikTok Is Testing a Way to Post Without It Following You Everywhere

TikTok is testing "Don't Show on TikTok Profile" on iOS — a Trial-Reels-style option that lets a video reach non-followers in the feed without living on your public grid. Low-risk way to test a format or a hot take before it becomes part of your permanent record.

Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Now TikTok Are All Drawing the Same Line on AI

Snap says fully AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for Spotlight recommendations — only content made or edited by real people gets the reach. It's the same split showing up everywhere right now: AI as a tool in your process is fine, AI as the whole thing is a distribution problem.

🧠 Reality Check

Borrowed Attention Isn't the Same as Owned Reach

The Disney deal is genuinely exciting — but it's also a masterclass in how platforms frame "opportunity." You get access to IP you don't own, distributed on a feed you don't control, subject to rules that can change the moment the partnership does. None of that makes it not worth doing. It just means the audience you build inside someone else's Verts feed isn't the same asset as the audience that knows how to find you directly. If a platform vanished tomorrow, could your people still reach you? If the honest answer is no, that's not a failure — it's just the next thing worth building.

If you're navigating burnout on top of all this platform-hopping, Dallas-based creator organizations are starting to build mental health support specifically for people doing this work — a sign that "just push through" is finally being treated as the wrong answer.

🌱 This is for you if you are a community organizer

Every story above is really about the same question community organizers already know the answer to: does this room belong to you, or are you just renting it? This week, take one hour to move one piece of your community somewhere you actually own — an email list, a Skool space, a group chat that doesn't live inside an algorithm.

Small step, real ownership.
