It’s been a very busy few weeks but I am happy to announce that SIEMBRA SESSIONS are back. If you are wondering what that is… I will break it down…
Siembra Sessions is an intimate interview podcast for creators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries navigating the journey of building something real. Hosted by me (for now), each episode digs beneath the highlight reel…exploring origins, creative process, the challenges that shaped the work, and the wisdom worth passing on to the next generation.
Rooted in the philosophy of siembra… planting seeds… the show rejects hustle-culture urgency in favor of sustainable growth: authentic storytelling, real income, and staying connected to yourself while you scale. It's part of the larger Siembra Connect ecosystem, built for creators who want clarity and ownership over their path.
So here is the podcast I have been promising with some context.
In the rush to launch Siembra Sessions, I became so focused on getting the podcast out into the world that I lost sight of some of the conversations I had recorded along the way. This was one of them. When I came back to this conversation with Tio Maxi, it hit me far harder than I expected. I found myself thinking about how people grow into roles they may never have imagined for themselves, simply because their community needs them.
After returning home from Vietnam, Tio Maxi found himself being pulled deeper into the needs of his Bronx community. He kept showing up. He kept answering the call. And over time, that became part of the story of the Rainbow Garden, a space rooted in health, connection, and community.
I originally planned to polish this into a tightly edited episode. But the more I watched, the more I felt that polishing it would take something away. There are technical issues. There are rough moments. I left them in on purpose. I want you to experience Tio Maxi in his own words, his own voice, his own pace. Not reduced to soundbites.
This is the conversation as it happened. This is the story of the Rainbow Garden in the Bronx. It's the story of a veteran who came home and found another way to serve. I'm grateful to finally give it the space it deserves.
Rainbow Garden of Life and Health is a community garden and urban farm in the South Bronx, rooted in food, health, wellness, education, and connection. Led by longtime community builder and Vietnam veteran Maximino "Maxi" Rivera, the garden is a living space where neighbors grow, learn, and share together. If you'd like to learn more about the garden, its history, and the work Tío Maxi and the community continue to do, you can visit the New York Restoration Project page about Rainbow Garden of Life and Health

While you are listening… here is this week’s industry news…
This week the industry's biggest growth bets ran into their biggest bills. Meta just agreed to pay nearly $18 billion over how it treated teen users, LinkedIn declared war on AI-generated comments, and Instagram's first logo change in a decade landed... rough. The theme underneath all of it: platforms are starting to pay for unmanaged growth, and so are we.
Let's get into it.

📈 What's Moving
Growth Now Comes With a Bill Attached
Three different stories this week, one consistent message: unmanaged growth has a price tag. Meta's $18B settlement is regulators sending the invoice. LinkedIn's comment crackdown is the platform sending its own invoice to bots gaming the system. Instagram's backlash is the audience sending an invoice for a change nobody asked for. If you've been chasing growth without thinking about what you owe your audience in return — trust, transparency, actually showing up as yourself — this is the week platforms started getting billed for the same thing. Worth asking yourself the same question they're being forced to answer: what's the real cost of how you're growing right now?

Growth tips from this story:
Do a quick honesty audit: is any part of your growth strategy something you'd be uncomfortable explaining to your audience directly? That's usually the first thing to fix.
Trust compounds slower than reach but survives longer — if you have to pick which one to prioritize this quarter, pick trust.
Instagram's First Logo Refresh in Over a Decade Lands Rocky
Instagram unveiled a redesigned wordmark — its first branding update in more than ten years — alongside new fonts, icons, and formats. The announcement drew over 5,000 replies across Instagram and Threads, many critical of the new styling.
Growth tips from this story:
Audit your own bio links, pinned content, and profile assets for anything referencing the old branding — small inconsistencies read as "dated" faster than you'd think.
If you're planning any kind of visual refresh yourself, this is a live case study: even a purely cosmetic change can backfire if your audience feels blindsided. Tease it first.
TikTok Opens Its Ad Tools to AI Agents
Following Snapchat's lead, platforms are opening campaign planning to third-party AI tools — advertisers can now use AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to plan and refine ad campaigns directly, with admins approving each AI connection individually (read-only at launch).

Growth tips from this story:
If you run any paid promotion on your own content, ask your ad rep whether AI-agent planning tools are live for your account yet — early adopters typically get better support during rollout.
This is a preview of where brand deal negotiations are headed too — start getting comfortable explaining your numbers in a way an AI tool could parse, not just a human buyer.
🌱 Resources & Opportunities
🎙️ This is for you if you are a Podcaster
If you're doing investigative or accountability-style reporting in podcast form, FIJ's grant above explicitly covers podcasts… the deadline is tomorrow…but we have posted it a few times… so now I am sending this to let you know that this is your sign to at least start the application even if you can't finish it by tonight.
Doing so will perfectly put you in position for the January cycle…
Beyond that: with LinkedIn now rewarding substantive comments over volume, your show's episode discussions on LinkedIn might be a better growth lever this month than another platform post. Drop a real take in the comments of 2-3 relevant posts this week and see what happens to your profile visits.
Here is the info…
Fund for Investigative Journalism — Up to $10,000, Deadline
FIJ's Regular Grants fund investigative reporting "in any format, including print, online, broadcast, books, documentaries, and podcasts" — up to $10,000 to cover reporting costs. Seed Grants ($1,000–$2,500) are also open for earlier-stage ideas, no letter of commitment required. Verified directly on FIJ's official application page — this deadline is Monday, September 14, 2026, 11:59pm ET. If this is for you, apply today.
Growth tips from this story:
Set a recurring reminder now for FIJ's next cycle (January 30) so you're not scrambling next time — funding deadlines like this run 3-4x a year.
Even if journalism grants aren't your lane, borrow FIJ's proposal structure — clear ask, detailed budget, outlet commitment — for your next brand pitch.
🧠 Creator Mental Health
The Advocacy Is Shifting From Platforms to Creators Themselves
A piece published this week makes a sharp point: for decades, mental health conversations were shaped top-down by medical institutions and policy leaders — but the creator economy is flipping that, with creators sharing lived experience (insurance denials, the real cost of therapy, stigma) doing more to shift the narrative than institutional messaging ever did. The piece also names concrete platform-level asks worth watching for: built-in break reminders, the option to hide public engagement metrics, and mental health resources surfaced directly in creator dashboards — not buried in a help center.

Growth tips from this story:
If you've navigated something hard (insurance, burnout, stigma) and are willing to talk about it, that story does more real advocacy work than any stat you could cite — consider sharing it once, on your terms.
Check whether your platform of choice has metric-hiding or break-reminder features live yet — several are rolling these out but they're often opt-in and easy to miss.
